Pembrokeshire 127 all out
Cardiff UCCE 130 for 2
(Cardiff UCCE won by eight wickets)
Cardiff University Cricket Centre of Excellence, packed with players of the highest quality drawn from Cardiff University, UWIC, and Glamorgan University, proved to be too strong for Pembrokeshire in the first county game of the season.
The county team were bowled out for 127. The visiting bowlers got on top as the Pembrokeshire batsmen failed to make the most of the perfect conditions at the delightful Whitland ground.
Opener Nick Scourfield tried to hold things together, but was dismissed for 27 and Simon Cole reached 16.
The pace of Sean Moore and Tom Allin was combined with accuracy and the middle order fell apart as Moore took 4-24 and Allin 4-42.
Allin has cricket in the blood as his father Tony Allin was a left arm spinner with Glamorgan for one productive season, but he refused the offer of a contract as he wanted to return to farming.
Without scores of 14 apiece by Rob Scourfield and Huw Scriven and 12 by Rob Williams, the county side would have been dismissed for under 100.
In reply, the visitors reached 130-2 to notch up an eight wickets win following good batting by openers Ryan Bishop with 46 and Seb Benton with 51no.
Cresselly skipper Simon Cole took 2-26 with his off-spinners.
Cricketers from the six Centres of Excellence throughout the country are groomed for the first class game and play some of the 18 first class counties on a regular basis.
However, the Pembrokeshire players enjoyed the challenge of playing such a talented side.
