Each year, the Pembroke County branch of the National Farmers Union presents the W. Rees Owen Memorial Prize to a day-release agricultural student nominated for the award by the Pembrokeshire College. This year's winner is Oliver Morgan, the only son of Roy and Bethan Morgan, and a former student of Preseli Secondary School. Oliver, who has successfully completed his NVQ level II (livestock) course and is now in his first year of NVQ level III, works at home on the family's 500-acre farm which carries a mixed herd of 80 suckler cows put to a Limousin bull and also a breeding flock of 1,000 cross-bred ewes. Tutor Mark Brace commended Oliver whom, he said, had 'applied himself very well to the course and was making excellent progress'.
