Pembrokeshire's only group dedicated to helping anyone who's had a stroke runs out of funding in January. Pembrokeshire's Positive Action for Stroke Group has been funded by the Big Lottery for the past three-and-a-half-years, but the money runs out in the New Year. "We try to help people who've had strokes to reintegrate back into the community," said group co-ordinator Glenys Richards-Jones. "Often people think their life is over once they have a stroke because there are lots and lots of things they can no longer do." As well as speech and occupational therapy, the group teaches new skills such as computing. They have already had their lottery grant extended twice and fear for their future once the money runs out in January. Now the co-ordinators have asked Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire AM Angela Burns to try to safeguard the future of the group. "The Positive Action for Stroke Group does sterling work and the service it provides is vitally needed in Pembrokeshire," said Mrs. Burns, who visited one of their weekly meetings in Narberth's Bloomfield Centre. "They are now facing a very uncertain future and we must ensure that their good work is allowed to continue." Mrs. Burns has now written to the local health board asking them to take over funding the group.
