Tenby looks set to have striking new street furniture in the new year.
Two figures will be holding the noticeboards which will be erected at prominent locations in the town in a project spearheaded by the De Valence Trust.
The six-foot high by seven-foot wide noticeboards will be bold and reflect the corporate colours of the De Valence, used in decorating the building and on their website - burgundy/purple for the main bodies and frame, with yellow for faces and hands and black for the shoes.
One side of the noticeboard will feature a map of the town, with a 'you are here' sign, while the other will be available for people to advertise their town events.
The town council has sponsored one noticeboard, which will be located at the junction of South Parade and Upper Park Road, while the other - funded by the Tenby Chamber of Trade and Tourism, the South West Wales Tourism Partnership and Tenby Civic Society - will stand at the junction of The Croft and The Norton.
Artist/blacksmith Toby Petersen has been commissioned to construct and erect the boards and is making good progress, members of the town council were informed. He expects to be able to despatch them both for galvanising before Christmas, before painting them in the approved colours and erecting them in mid-January.
When asked for their comments regarding the colour scheme at their meeting on Tuesday night, members of the council were in agreement with the colours suggested.
"We have got to be adventurous and live with it first," said Clr. Julie Evans. "It is meant to be attractive. If we see in the future that it is too gaudy and does not fit in, then potentially the colour scheme can be changed to black."
