PUPILS from the Pembrokeshire Dance School again swept the board in the Welsh Medallist of the Year competitions at Chepstow Leisure Centre on Sunday. There were over 1,000 competitors from Wales and the West Country at the event. In the Disco, Classical, Modern Sequence, Ballroom and Latin sections, Pembrokeshire pupils recorded: 50 1st places; 62 2nds and 49 3rds - a total 161 medals. Milford Haven teenager, Eleanor Jeffries, 14, of Nantucket Avenue, retained the Samantha Jenkins trophy she won last year for the Best Overall Disco Dancer. The school also won the Overall Disco trophy. Margaret Jones, Principal of the Pembrokeshire County Council-run school, said in terms of numbers of entrants, it was the biggest competition the school had entered. "The event proved very popular. The 'Strictly Come Dancing' series, which was on BBC, has certainly caught the imagination of young people," she added. Clr. John Davies, the leader of Pembrokeshire County Council, said he was delighted with the success of the Dance School members. "This is a tremendous achievement by the young people and their teachers and reflects great credit on the county," he said.
