THE story behind one of Pembrokeshire's most important and exciting archaeological digs will be updated at a talk at Castlemartin Camp on Wednesday, March 28. Last summer's month-long dig at Brownslade Barrow, on the Castlemartin Range, revealed an early Christian burial ground with over 40 well preserved graves, dating back over 1,000 years. The dig was funded by the Ministry of Defence and co-ordinated by Cambria Archaeology and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority. National Park archaeologist Polly Groom, who played a major part in the excavation, will be giving the talk, starting at 7 pm in the camp's briefing theatre. Said Polly: "This is an update of our ongoing work on this important project. Our dig was the first since Victorian archaeologists had investigated the barrow in the 1880s and has given us a new insight into a very important site and a period in our history." • As seating capacity is limited, please register your attendance in advance by telephoning 01646 662213.
