Tenby Town Council have reiterated their objections to having a mobile 'phone mast on the town's Park Hotel on health grounds.
The town council have long objected to a mast on the North Cliff hotel as they are concerned about possible health risks.
At their meeting on Tuesday, members heard that Orange PCS Ltd. were now proposing to remove the existing mast and replace it with new steel grillage to accommodate 10 equipment cabinets, and an antennae support pole with six antenna and 600 mm dish. These would all be covered by a GPS shroud.
Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas noted that as this was a replacement structure the output levels would remain the same, and the town council would have to consider the application on how the new structure would look, rather than health grounds.
Clr. Stuart Fecci agreed. "We can object to this on its look and how it would affect the skyline," he commented.
Clr. Miss Lis James felt that the new structure was "not going to make a lot of difference from a distance."
"Our main bugbear is the location of this mast on health grounds," she stressed.
Clr. Fecci noted that the North Cliff residents had discussed the application and felt that, on paper, there did not appear to be any reasons for objection other than their original ones regarding possible health risks, which still stood.
"I, too, am still worried about the perceived health implications," he said. "We could, in similar vein to the North Cliff residents, reiterate those health concerns and pass no comment on the aesthetics of the proposal."
