Was ex-hurricane Bertha firing a warning shot across the bows as a heavy shower at 10 o'clock on Saturday morning had the Steps2Health walkers looking anxiously up at the threatening clouds? (writes B.S.). Fortunately, the 34 walkers need not have worried as the sun broke through the rest of the morning. Tenby was choked with the incoming traffic, but the walkers soon left behind the busy pavements to reach Black Rock Cottage via the golf links path. Two-dozen walkers opted for the shorter route with Paul, Erica, Janice and Barbara. Turning left they reached the beach to make their way to 1 Esplanade for coffee, tea or a cold drink. Brian led the other 10 walkers on a longer route, with Val as back-up. They continued along the path alongside the railway line to aptly named Railway Cottage. A short walk along the bypass brought them to Penally station and the path leading across the golf links to the beach. With the tide very low, the walkers revelled in the vast expanse of space and solitud - a far cry from the crowded streets of town. A time to relax and enjoy the fantastic views. Missing out on the refreshments at 1 Esplanade were the walks leaders who had gone off to a meeting to decide the programme for the next few months, taking us into autumn. Tomorrow (Saturday) the walk starts approx 10.30 at Manorbier beach car park. The Silcox 349 leaves Tenby 10.05. Coffee will be at the village cafe.
