At least 50 Steps2Health walkers gathered at St. David's National Park Visitor Centre on Saturday to enjoy a clifftop walk amidst the stunning scenery of St. Bride's Bay (writes B.S.).

The long procession followed walks leader Lyn Evans down the road to Caerfai Bay. Also on hand were walks leaders Val, Margaret, Penny, Janice and Gill to help ensure the safety of everyone on the sometimes muddy and often stoney cliff path.

Although a cloudy day, the sun appeared now and again to highlight the beauty of the coastline, including the island of Skomer. From our vantage points, we had an almost bird's eye view right round the coast of St. Bride's Bay.

But time to pause, and perhaps also get spiritually refreshed, as we reached St. Nons Chapel. The chapel is dedicated to the mother of St. David and it is said the nearby well sprang up on the night of his birth. Many of the walkers took time to splash themselves with the water which is reputed to have healing properties.

More than half the group continued further along the cliff path, while the rest opted to follow the minor road and hence a footpath into the centre of our smallest city.

Certainly no shortage of places to have lunch, whether it be in a cafe, pub or the cathedral refectory. So much to see and atmosphere to soak up on what had been a very special outing, the only sour note being a puncture which delayed the return of one of the minibuses.

But the news that Barbara and Paul Morris have been blessed with a grandson was good to hear.

Tomorrow (Saturday) meet outside Sainsbury's 10.30 am for a local walk.
