The Steps2Health group very much appreciated the part played by Silcox buses in getting them all to Haverfordwest in time for Saturday's walk (writes B.S.).
To make sure no one was left behind, Silcox put on an extra bus to follow the 9.40 am from Tenby and, at Kilgetty, all the walkers transferred to this bus which then proceeded non-stop to Haverfordwest.
And what an amazing walk it turned out to be on the lovely September morning. As the large group gathered outside County Hall, they little realised how the landscape would change so dramatically as the busy town was left behind and a walk down a lane would take them back down the centuries.
All the walks leaders were on hand and Lyn Evans led the faster group, while wife Penny was at the head of the slower paced walkers.
The banks of the Cleddau soon changed from being lined with buildings to being the boundary of a peaceful and tranquil sheet of water where even a sea lion was spotted recently.
Our first indication of 'time travel' was a George VI postbox, covered in ivy, but still in use.
For the thirsty there was a jet of water straight from Higgins Well - no need to dash to the supermarket for a bottle of this spring water!
We were now walking along the riverbank on a stretch known as Fortune's Folly. It was here Samuel Fortune fought the last duel on Pembrokeshire soil in 1799. Hard to imagine such a dark deed on such a bright sunlit morning.
The path eventually brought us to the ancient church of St. Ishmaels in the village of Uzmaston, the furthest point of the walk.
The way back was along a very quiet country road which led back to the county town after one-and-a-half hours walking. Refreshment stop was at The Bristol Trader, the very name evocative enough to conjure up a picture of its former customers who would have sailed up the Western Cleddau to Haverfordwest, the port.
Tomorrow (Saturday) we head for Blackpool Mill for a walk in Slebech woods. Drivers meet approx 11 am at Blackpool Mill car park. To find out if there are any seats still available on the mini-bus leaving from outside Somerfield at 10.30 am, ring Val Coates Rees on 843951.
