On Saturday, the first Stepping Stones walk took place at Bosherston Lily Ponds. Stepping Stones is a series of short walks (about four miles) organised by Pembrokeshire Ramblers. The walks are designed to be enjoyable and sociable for people who are not regular walkers. Saturday could not have been a better introduction to the pleasures of walking as it was a beautiful sunny day and the Lily Ponds looked their best, with the paths fringed with daffodils and primroses. Fourteen walkers took part. The walk began by following the Western Arm to Broadhaven, before continuing along the Eastern Arm to the site of Stackpole Court, stopping to admire the eight-arch bridge and watch the wildlife from the hide. At the site of Stackpole Court, a visit to the old game larder provided photographs and a history of the estate. After stopping to look at the one arch bridge and surrounding wetland, the walkers returned to Bosherston via the elevated alternative route which provided fine views of all the lakes. The next Stepping Stones walk will be on Saturday, April 29, meeting at Brunel car park, Neyland Marina, at 11 am. The leader is Rose Taylor (tel. 01646 600225) On Sunday, May 7, the walkers will meet at Stack Rocks car park. The leader is Madeleine Bland (tel. 01646 651677).
