Do you organise walks for people in Pembrokeshire? If so, the National Park Authority wants to include you in a new online directory of local walking groups.
The Pembrokeshire Walking Directory will make it easier for people who want to reap the health and social benefits of walking to find the opportunities that are available on their doorstep.
The authority wants to hear from activity providers who offer walks as part of their programme of activities and wish to be included in the directory, which so far lists only established specialist walking groups.
National Park Authority Discovery Ranger Tom Moses said: “This new directory will hopefully encourage more people to take part in walking activities regularly and make them aware of the groups and events that already exist nearby.
“There are many organisations that take advantage of the fantastic walking opportunities that we have here in Pembrokeshire, but not everyone is aware of them. We hope it will also help those who set up new groups in the future to promote their group in their area.
“The improved fitness offered by walking regularly is obvious to many, but walking also offers social and well-being benefits which can increase people’s quality of life in many other ways. Some people know they want to walk more, but just need that bit of extra support offered by doing so with like-minded people to start and maintain a more active lifestyle.”
The free directory will be hosted on the National Park Authority’s website, and will be launched as part of the Let’s Walk Pembrokeshire initiative in September.
Those who prefer to plan their own walks can take advantage of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail and more than 200 circular walks that are available to download from the National Park Authority’s website.
This work is funded through the Welsh Government’s Rights of Way Improvement Programme.
If you are interested in having your group’s details included please send the name of your group, where you are based and contact details to [email protected] or visit www.pembrokeshirecoast.wales/walkingdirectory for more information.
