THE three independent members of the new Standards Committee of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park were confirmed at a special Park Authority meeting last week.
They join three members of the authority on the committee, part of the new ethical framework for local government designed to develop and maintain the highest standards of conduct of local authority business.
Recently selection interviews took place for the Standards Committee and the three independent members appointed are:
Mr. Keith Davies, of Cosheston. Mr. Davies was brought up in Tenby and until his retirement from private practice last year was a senior partner of a large law firm in Plymouth.
Mr. Graham Warrilow, of Newport. Mr. Warlow, a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, is a former Assistant Director (County Environment Officer) of Staffordshire County Council.
Mr. Geoff Wright, of Druidson, near Nolton. Mr. Wright is a retired deputy head teacher of a Warwickshire high school and was also a councillor for 20 years on Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.
The other members of the committee are county councillors Jane Major and Tom Sinclair and National Assembly appointed member Mrs. Jane Heard.
One of the independent members will be appointed as chairman.
Terms of reference of the committee members include commenting on the authority's ethical code, suggesting improvement as appropriate and advising on its implementation; hearing and determining the outcome of complaints that authority members are in breach of the code. They will also oversee and monitor the authority's 'whistleblowing' procedure and to consider ethical issues arising from complaints under the procedure.
