The second Sunday of Trinity and a large congregation had gathered for the Benefice and Family Eucharist. Congratulations go to Ruth Allen who rang the bells for the first time for a Sunday service. The service was in the caring hands of Revd. Michael John and he welcomed all to the Eucharist. The service began with the choir singing the introit 'Lead me Lord' in St. Anne's Chapel, followed by the processional hymn 'Alleluya - sing to Jesus'. Revd. Michael led the congregation in the 'The Kenyan Gloria'. Mrs. Carol Cavill read the first reading of the morning from the Book of Deuteronomy and Revd. Michael read the second reading from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans. The third reading from the Gospel of Matthew was read by Revd. Dennis Baxter. Dennis reminded us of the wise man who built his house on a rock - the strong foundation of Jesus Christ and the foolish man who built his house on sand. The Sunday Club went on to enact the building of these two houses and with the help of the clergy who provided the rain and the wind, the wisdom of choosing a sure foundation was brought home to the congregation. The narrator was Martha, helped by her Sunday Club friends. Revd. Michael asked us "what have you built your lives upon?' He reminded us of the feeble items that we tend to build our lives upon. The Sunday Club then entertained the congregation with their song 'The wise man built his house upon the rock'. The offertory hymn was 'There's a wideness in God's mercy'. This was followed by the Eucharist led by Revd. Michael. The communion was celebrated at both altars, during which, the choir sang the Motet 'Teach me O Lord' and the hymn 'Blest are the pure in heart'. The recessional hymn was 'All my hope on God is founded'. The Catalyst Diocesan Experience will take place at the United Counties Showground on Saturday, July 5 - a fun packed day for all the family.
