A brisk, bright autumn morning and St. Mary's Church was well attended for the morning Eucharist.

The processional hymn was 'Come ye faithful, raise the anthem.'

The service was in the care of Rev. Dennis Baxter. Mrs. Jean John read the first reading from the Book of Amos. Amos states that all those who live the 'good' life and are not grieved over the ruin of Joseph, they shall be the first to go into exile. Mrs. Nicole Evans read the second reading from the first Book of Timothy. 'There is great gain in Godliness combined with contentment: for we brought nothing into this world so we can take nothing out of it.'

The singing of Psalm 146 followed these readings. Rev. Dennis read from the Gospel of Luke, relating the parable of Lazarus.

Rev. Dennis gave the sermon. Jesus Christ became poor so that we could become rich. He became poor when he took our sins upon himself and died for us - He died our death in our stead, so that when we die we do so in the sure hope of resurrection. All the fruits of God will be gathered into a barn where there is no pain. One thing that can come between God and man is the love of money. Jesus Christ reminded the Pharisees that their love of money was all consuming and thus closed their minds to the teachings of God.

If we have enough food, clothes and shelter, then we have enough - other parts of the world truly know that it's like to be without. We must love one Master - the Lord, give our riches to Him, and share with others.

Rev. Dennis went on to lead the congregation in prayer. He asked that we remember the words of Francis of Assisi 'Always be preaching the gospel of God and sometimes use words.' The offertory hymn was 'Crown Him with many crowns.'

The communion was celebrated at both altars and all were asked to draw near and receive the 'Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.' During communion, Sunday Club joined the service for a blessing and the choir sang 'How blest are they' by Attwood.

The final hymn was 'Ye Holy angels bright.' The Harvest Thanksgiving Services will be as follows: October 5 - St. Nicholas and St. Teilo, Penally - Holy Eucharist and Harvest Supper. October 7 - St. Mary's Church - 8 am, 10 am and 6 pm. October 7 - St. Lawrence - Eucharist at 3 pm.
