Among matters discussed at the April meeting of St. Mary Out Liberty Community Council were the following:

PLANNING APPLICATIONS

Loft conversion - Mr. and Mrs. Stephens, Taneka, Broadfield Hill, Saundersfoot. Advice of approval was noted. Change of use, Crestville Motel. A letter advising that the application had been withdrawn was noted. A letter advising of the detail of the application for the erection of an antennae unit near Twy Cross roundabout, New Hedges, was also noted.

FINANCE

Appeals: Welsh Air Ambulance. A donation of £15 was proposed by Clr. R. Johns, seconded by Clr. Mrs. Caswell.

COUNTY COUNCILLOR MRS. CAVILL's REPORT

JUDP: Members queried the lack of explanation on one of the maps in the JUDP. This was actually showing the extent of the green belt to be kept between New Hedges and Tenby. Street lighting: Clr. Mrs Cavill had spoken with the relevant officer, and the New Hedges lighting was being considered as a scheme for this financial year. Waterwynch: Following their meeting at Waterwynch, the officer met with Mr. Evans and he was agreeable to forming a viewpoint and bench seat on the alternate route. The location he favoured would be slightly up-slope of the path to afford best views of the bay at a point midway along the section to be improved. The National Park now intended to publish the Diversion Order to legally change the route, which, once confirmed, would allow them to proceed with the improvements discussed at their meeting. Road markings: The county council did not have to paint arrows on the road where there was already a 'No Right Turn Notice', but in this case the area maintenance officer had agreed to carry out the work. Footpath, Broadfield: All new road schemes were considered in June each year. The scheme to extend the footpath would be considered then. Chief executive officer's salary: It was reported in the press that, in the week local government workers were striking to preserve their pension rights, Pembrokeshire county councillors voted a massive pay increase for the chief executive officer. Clr. Mrs. Cavill pointed out that this pay rise was decided by a committee of six officers, two of whom voted against it. The rest of the councillors had no say in it, as they were not able to bring the matter before full council.

OTHER BUSINESS

Highway matters: The chairman advised that he had met with Mr. Morgan, the council's contractor, to arrange the cutting of the bank opposite the Crestville Motel. The work had been completed, and the area looked a lot better. Council agreed to have the bank cut periodically during the season, and the clerk was to arrange this. Village matters: The chairman reported that there had been a problem over the positioning of the children's play equipment on the new playing field. The matter was being dealt with by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and more information would be available at a later date. Council hoped that the matter could be resolved amicably and they were prepared to assist in any way they could, whilst remaining neutral in any dispute that occurred within the community. Seat maintenance programme: Clr. Johns reported that the work was now progressing. Playing field and Village Hall: The chairman reported that work had started on the extension of the Village Hall. With reference to the play area in the existing park opposite the Mini Market, the lease was soon to expire. The county council had agreed that they would fund the transfer of the play equipment to the new playing field. Council discussed this matter at length, and it was agreed that they should request that the lease be renewed or extended, to allow the existing area to remain as it was at present. County Clr. Mrs. Cavill agreed to take this matter up on behalf of the council and to report back to the next meeting. Bus shelter and timetable provision: Clr. Morris was concerned that this matter had still not been concluded. County Clr. Mrs. Cavill reported that she thought a job had been issued, and she would pursue this. The matter of the painting of the bus bays was also discussed and would be investigated.

E-mails were read by the chairman with reference to access to Waterwynch beach and the Buckingham Palace garden party. Booklets were distributed from the Ombudsman indicating amendments to regulations. Letters from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park were read inviting nominations for a tree warden scheme, and also advising of changes in the policy of delegation to officers. The chairman read letters of thanks from Pembrokeshire Cruse and Pembrokeshire Crossroads.
