The service on Sunday was conducted by the Rev. Ron Gilbert and was opened by the choir singing 'Spirit of the Living God,' accompanied by Mrs. Sheila John on the organ. Words of welcome were read by Molly of the junior church.

After the first hymn, the congregation read Psalm 67 (855).

The Rev. Gilbert told the children that he had six children and he talked to them of a great sermon by Jesus known as 'The sermon on the mount' and Jesus also told the parable of the foolish man who built his house on sand and the wise man who built his house on rock. The wise person is the one who builds his life on the Word of God.

The congregation joined together in singing the hymn 'He's got the whole world in His hand' and then the young people left for their classes.

Mrs. Molly Neate read from John, chapter 14, verses 15-32.

After prayers led by the Rev. Gilbert, he said that he was basing his talk on verse 27 of the reading 'Peace is what I leave with you.'

In the 1960s, young people were saying 'can we have peace in our time.' It never came to fruition. Today mostly we have bad news; war or rumours of war. The rulers say we must have peace and need to get round the peace table when there are problems. There must be reconciliation. For reconciliation there must be forgiveness. The Bible says that we are sinners. God sent us His son so that sinners can be reconciled to God. How! Because Jesus took our punishment by His death. Jesus said 'I am the way, the truth and the life. No-one can come to the Father except through me.' The Christian knows a peace that passes all understanding. Peace is about contentment.

After Holy Communion had been served by the elders, the final hymn was sung, the grace was said one to another and a blessing was sung by the choir.

Many thanks go to the Rev. Gilbert for his interpretation of the scriptures. Thanks also to all those who took part in the service.

This Sunday's service will be at 11 am and will be conducted by the Rev. David Owen. All are welcome.
