An historic exhibition taking place at St. John’s Church in Tenby has been praised by the town’s mayor.
The United Reformed and Methodist Church of St. Johns in Warren Street is celebrating its 150th anniversary, with a number of planned events in place throughout the year to mark the occasion.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, said that she was on hand at the opening of the display of church history at the facility, which runs until Saturday, and that it was ‘well worth seeing’.
“Well done to all involved with this exhibition at St. John’s Church, it is wonderful,” she remarked.
Other planned events at the church to mark the anniversary include a knitted Bible display between July 24 and August 24.
On Friday, Clr. Mrs. Lane, was welcomed by Graham Powell, the church secretary.
She said how great it was to have history on show like this for all the Tenby folk and visitors to come and see.
After opening the exhibition, she then had a tour with the organiser, Ron Hurlow, around the various exhibits of photos, documents, and books, followed by a cuppa in the lobby with all the church members present.
The wedding dress of Eluned Brown (aged 101 now) was on show as she had been married in St. Johns all those years ago.
Ron has done a tremendous amount of research in to the history of St. Johns over the last few years resulting in some interesting reading and looking at various photo albums. The framed photos of all the past ministers were brought into the church from the vestry.
