On Sunday, Mr. Brynmor Griffiths from Barry led the worship at St. Johns. On behalf of the Junior Church, Lara read the opening welcome. "Lord Jesus, we thank you that you have brought us safely together today."
Mr. Graham Powell thanked Mr. Griffiths for being at St. Johns and congratulated him and his wife on having celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary the previous day. It was good to share with them on such a special occasion.
The Introit, 'Jesus is here', was sung by the singing group, accompanied by Mrs. Sheila Noot.
Mrs. Miriam Griffiths read from Ecclesiastes, chapter 3; the words of which introduced the congregation to the theme of worship on Sunday, a time for silence in our lives. It is in moments of silence that we best get to know ourselves, and feel God's love.
Thumper, the rabbit from Walt Disney's story of Bambi, had come with Mr. Griffiths to illustrate his talk to the children about sometimes keeping silent rather than saying hurtful words. "If you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all." Thumper often caused trouble, sometimes it is easier to be nasty than nice. Jesus said, "If someone forces you to go the mile, then go another mile" - many times this important message is forgotten.
Mr. Griffiths further developed the theme of worship, as in the words of Ecclesiastes, "there is a time and place for everything." There is a time for silence in our lives, a time when we bring ourselves into the presence of God, hear his purposes for us. Silence can take many forms, in the working together in a common purpose, as we listen to each other and as we come together united. Silence is an important part of mission.
The final hymn, 'O Jesus I have promised', concluded worship.
This Sunday, worship will be led by the Rev. Nanette Lewis-Head and will include the Sacrament of Holy Communion. All are welcome.
News of friends: It was with great sadness that we heard of the death of Mr. John Bird. Sympathy goes to Mrs. Muir Bird, at this very sad time.
