On a wet and windy Sunday, the church looked welcoming dressed for Pentecost with balloons of red, yellow and orange along with flower arrangements by Anne. The minister, Rev. Nanette Lewis Head, welcomed everyone on this special day and thanked Rachel Bonser for reading the introduction. After the opening hymn, Nanette spoke to the children about Pentecost as being a birthday, as it was the birth of the Christian church. She asked them if any of them could say 'Happy Birthday' in any other languages. With the help of the congregation, it was said in Welsh, Italian, French and German, as well as English. All then joined in the singing of 'Happy Birthday' to the church. The children then left for their classes. Mrs. Liz Storey read from Acts ch 2 verses 1-21. Nanette's talk was on the coming of the Holy Spirit and how it affects all of us. Do we feel a sense of the spirit racing through our soul? Some Christians have a slow and steady growth towards receiving the spirit, while to others it happens quite suddenly. Let us rejoice in the gift. At that first Pentecost we are told there were 120 people. Today there are millions of Christians all over the world. During the singing of the final hymn, the children returned and paraded round the church with colourful streamers and white doves. The congregation said the grace to each other and the service concluded with the Benediction, 'O Holy Spirit breathe on me', sung by the choir. Thanks go to all who took part in the service, including Nanette for her interpretation of the reading from the Bible. This Sunday's service at 10.30 am will include Holy Communion, and will be conducted by Rev. Nanette Lewis Head.
