Last Sunday, Sexagesima Sunday, the Holy Eucharist was celebrated by the vicar, Rev. Victor Millgate.
The readings were taken from Proverbs 8, 1, 22-31, St. Paul's Letter to the Colossians 1, 15-20, the Gospel John 1, 1-14, and Psalm104, 24-35.
The vicar, in his sermon, drew attention to what a wonderful reassuring set of readings they had heard. They were statements of fact, not questions, probably not the most 'fashionable' in this year when Darwin was being especially recognised for his theory of evolution.
"However that was theory," he said. "We all know today through education and the media how man has changed over the years, grown taller etc, creatures have changed to suit their environment, but this does not mean that God does not exist. The creation stories in the Bible were written when men had the ability to understand loss. We have little more knowledge, but this wonderful world is far beyond our understanding, but the readings show we are all part of God's plan."
