Sir,

Thank you seems such a small word to say when you know a group of people have worked so hard to achieve a goal.

We started planning the St. Florence Carnival in early spring in the relaxed atmosphere of my home, along with the odd glass of wine! As the weeks went on, suggestions from everyone involved came thick and fast; suddenly we were doing a three-day event!

The main element was fun, so a lot of activities had no charge. Our Shaggy Dog Show wasn't that far off Crufts! The sedan chair race, hysterical entertainment, walking treasure hunt and pub quiz, brain testing.

Bank Holiday Monday, Carnival Day, Radio Pembrokeshire broadcast live, Phil Thompson from Texaco kept everyone informed as Master of Ceremonies. We had a touch of elegance from our Carnival Queen, Becky Collinson, and her attendants, Emilie Carlin and Ellie Smith. The fancy dress was covered beautifully by the Tenby Observer in last week's edition.

Tenby Fire Brigade cut up a car and went away with £100.20 after a quick bucket collection for their Benevolent Fund. Carol-Anne from the Harbour View Ceramic Cafe ran a stall, as well as Malcolm Calver, representing the Paul Sartori Foundation - he was able to boost their funds by £150. John Rodge, guitarist, played a lovely selection of music throughout the afternoon, as Anne and Joyce worked very hard in the kitchen serving tea and cakes. Arthur Duncan, from the Haverfordwest Prospecting Society, brought a wonderful display of history found through metal detecting. We also had a surprise visitor - a 1923 showman's steam tractor; it complemented the selection of classic cars organised by Mr. and Mrs. Videan and Karl Baugh's racing cart and championship trophies.

A wide selection of stalls were shaded under the canopies loaned by the Llanfallteg Community Association. There were card games, bric-a-brac, tombola, cakes etc. We also had china smashing and a 25m water slide. Our local church made £235 from their stall and our local football and cricket clubs also had their own stalls.

To finish off, we had a barbecue and live music from the band 'Strictly Business', who I would highly recommend! Our finale was a spectacular fireworks display provided by Chris Allen from Westcoast Fireworks, Narberth.

Thank you to all the people who donated towards our raffles and everyone who supported our three-day event by turning up and spending your money! St Florence village will benefit quite considerably, as just over £1,000 was raised due to your generosity.

As to how the money will be spent will be discussed at the St. Florence Village Association meetings, which are held on the third Monday of each month, and to which all are welcome.

My final thanks must go to those who helped run stalls and to my committee, because without your hard work and dedication this event would not have taken place.

I hope I haven't forgotten anyone!
