It was fortunate that Silcox had been forwarned that a contingent of Steps2Health walkers would be travelling by the 10 am bus to Amroth on Saturday morning. So thanks to the company for putting on a larger bus which enabled the group to travel in comfort to Amroth where they were joined by more walkers in the village car park, making a total of 32 (writes B.S.). Expectations were high for this Easter walk and Colby Woodland did not disappoint. Here was Springtime at its most sensational. A landscape alive with the colour of rhododendrons and azaleas. Bluebells and anenomes provided an exquisite carpet under the fresh leaves of the trees. And all blessed with cloudless sunshine! All the group walked as far as the bridge over the stream. Brian led the way over the bridge, with Peter as back up, to give the faster group a more challenging walk. Turning right through the gate, they went up a track opposite the sign to Long Lane, taking the left incline to climb slowly up to Bluebell Alley. Well worth the climb to be rewarded with a glimpse of the sea. Then it was straight over the bridge and through the Bamboo. A short walk along the road brought them back into the woodlands and along the path past the tearooms, back to Amroth and refreshments at the Amroth Arms. The shorter walk, with Janice and Erica, did the circular route, past the tearoom and back along the path the opposite side of the meadow. In addition to the Spring flowers, the walkers were very intrigued to spot a 'Money Tree!' A tree with a split in the trunk was crammed with pennies. These were all very tightly packed in and could not be prised out. So the walkers are completely mystified as to why a tree is being used as a piggybank. Tomorrow (Saturday) meet 10.30 Upper Park Road for a town walk.
