Sir,
I was disappointed to hear this week, that some mindless people have been using the pitches at the Clicketts as a rally course and totally ruined the playing surfaces.
Tenby United proudly play and coach 13 sides, 10 of which use the area, along with as many teams from Tenby AFC, so I'm sure that you can appreciate that every inch of the well-kept playing surfaces at the Clicketts ground is needed in the best possible condition to allow our talented youngsters to be able to play and train safely.
These reckless people who decided to drive around and make a complete mess of the pitches should be ashamed of themselves as their actions have caused the surface to be almost unplayable, and they have unnecessarily put the junior and mini sections games and training in jeopardy.
The parents and coaches of the children who use the Clicketts, not just for rugby, but for football and other activities, put a lot of time, effort and money into it to ensure that the pitches are as good as they can be, so that the children can use them for training and games and get as much enjoyment and benefits from outdoor sports and activities as possible.
I repeat, the people responsible should be ashamed of themselves and I urge people living in the area of the Clicketts to please be vigilant and report any suspicious actvities at the ground to the police, so that these idiots can be prosecuted.
If only they spent their time and energy helping in the community with sports for youngsters or such activities and not mindlessly driving at speed around on the pitches, then maybe they would realise the knock-on effects of their actions and how many children will be disappointed when their games or training sessions are cancelled or postponed.
It still amazes me how a small majority of idiots can cause such problems for the people who try to make communities like Tenby a better place for youngsters to grow up in.
I just hope that someone will come forward and let us at Tenby United RFC or Tenby AFC or the police know if they have any information regarding the damage that has been done.
Peter James,
Chairman of rugby
sub-committee,
Tenby United RFC.
