The finalists in the 2010 Sport Pembrokeshire awards have been announced.
An eight-strong judging panel named the 44 sportspeople following their meeting last Thursday.
Clr. Rob Lewis, Pembrokeshire County Council cabinet member for sport and a member of the panel, said it was a 'nigh on impossible' task due to the exceptional standard of achievement by all 104 nominees.
"In some of the categories especially, it was extremely difficult," he said.
"There is such a variety of sport, that to try and assess the level of achievement in one sport against another is very challenging."
"We have been amazed by the level and quality of the applications that have come in, and we are just grateful to all those who suggested nominations, for taking the time to put the names of so many deserving winners forward."
All the finalists will be invited to a grand presentation ceremony at Folly Farm on Friday, November 26, where the winner of each category will be announced.
The ceremony will also reveal the winners of two further categories - the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Chairman's Special Achievement Award.
The awards are sponsored by Sport Pembrokeshire, Chevron, The Western Telegraph, Folly Farm and Radio Pembrokeshire.
Now in their fourth year, they aim to recognise those people who have excelled in sport over the last 12 months, or who have given their time to coaching and organising grass roots sport.
John Deason, Sport Pembrokeshire manager, said: "The range and quality of nominations this year is outstanding.
"We really struggled to select finalists and all panel members are agreed that the real winner is sport in Pembrokeshire; all those nominated deserve recognition and will be invited to the special presentation event at Folly Farm.
"I am particularly pleased that school sport and its links to community sports clubs is well reflected in the nominations.
"It is also the chance for us to recognise and publicly value the role that volunteers play in the county's sports clubs."
