The UK's only Spitfire charity shop has been officially opened by South Pembrokeshire AM Angela Burns.

The unique store in Willings Passage, Pembroke, aims to raise funds and awareness for the Welsh Spitfire Company, which is restoring an original Mark 8 Spitfire at Withybush airfield.

"The project to restore the Spitfire is hugely ambitious and very exciting," said Mrs. Burns.

"It will be one of only five flying Spitfires of its type when it is complete and I was delighted to be able to help by officially opening their new shop."

As well as the usual second-hand bric-a-brac, clothes, toys and books, the shop also has new goods from The Spitfire Society.

Fund-raising director Peter Kraus said: "We need £1.5 million to buy, restore and get the plane flying again. We thought the shop would be a good way to get some money and to raise our profile.

"Coming up to Christmas, people can buy an original gift and support us at the same time."

Ray Burgess, managing director of the Welsh Spitfire Company, said: "Our objective is to enrich people's future while they help us restore the past.  It's an opportunity to contribute to the restoration of part of Pembrokeshire's aviation heritage."

The Welsh Spitfire Company charity shop is open in Willings Passage, Pembroke, from 9.30 am - 4.30 pm, Monday to Saturday. If you can help by volunteering in the shop, call 07761 053713.
