There was a special Royal visit for Saundersfoot today (Friday) with Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, visiting the seaside village to officially open the Coastal Schooner Interpretation Centre at the Harbour Events Deck and attend the 2022 World Rowing Coastal Championships Beach Sprints.

This was Saundersfoot’s first ever Royal visitor, and with a warm welcome (despite the rainy weather) and flag waving from villagers at the harbour side, there was also a song from the pupils of Saundersfoot CP School ready for the Princess’ arrival, after she had landed via helicopter in Kilgetty, before being driven to proceedings.

The Beach Sprint Finals are being raced from October 14 to 16, with the event debuting in 2019 and will, for the third edition, have just under 250 athletes from 26 nations doing the short course, beach start style race.

Beach Sprints are to feature at the 2023 World Beach Games in Bali, and the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal and have also been proposed as an Olympic event for 2028 to the International Olympic Committee, and at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Earlier in the day, Princess Anne arrived in Pembrokeshire to open the new North Pembrokeshire and Cardigan Riding for the Disabled premises at Havard Stables in Dinas Cross. Following that, the Princess Royal officially opened the new Haverfordwest High School.
