Waunarlwydd 5 pts. Narberth 50

The Otters ended their league season in style with champagne rugby in the second half resulting in six tries being added to the two tries scored in the first half. On a fine but very windy afternoon at Roseland Road, Waun made all of the early running and were rewarded with a try by scrum-half Rhys Satterley after seven minutes which outside-half Lee Jones was unable to convert in the swirling wind. Young Narberth flanker Rion Whatmore scored an unconverted try after 20 minutes and made the next try scored five minutes later by Dan Smith after Whatmore had sliced through the Waun covering defence. Aled Davies managed to kick a difficult conversion. In the second half, the Otters made hay while the sun shone. More good work by Rion Whatmore enabled winger Andrew Jones to cross for a try in the left corner in the first minute and Aled Davies converted from the touchline. Scrum-half Adrian Killa scored a terrific individual try after 24 minutes, converted by Aled Davies, and Killa scored again five minutes later when he spotted a gap after a tremendous run by Andrew Jones. Sion Brace took this conversion attempt, but the ball rebounded from the posts. Winger Tom Bonnell scored the next try when he followed up a kick ahead and went over in the right corner for a try converted by Aled Davies. Replacement centre Steve Martin finished off another move and his try was converted by Aled Davies, before finally, winger Andrew Jones went over the line for an unconverted try with the last move of the match. This try notched up the half-century of points for Narberth and the result confirmed that the Otters would finish third in Division One West of the league. Commenting after the match, forwards' coach Sean Gale said: "It was an excellent performance. We were up against the elements in the first half and defended well against both Waunarlwydd and a very strong wind. "In the second half, we scored a lot of good tries. As always, the front row provided the platform and our backs produced some excellent running rugby. "Winger Andrew Jones scored two good tries and experienced scrum-half Adrian Killa put in a man- of-the-match performance. "Another encouraging aspect was the quality of play produced by youngsters Rion Whatmore and Richard Sharpe-Williams. "It was a totally professional performance and all of the players put their hands up to challenge for a place in Wednesday's Pembrokeshire Cup Final against Whitland." Narberth fielded: Sion Brace, Tom Bonnell, Richard Davies (Steve Martin), Neil Davies, Andrew Jones, Aled Davies, Adrian Killa, Tom Slater, Dan Smith, Justin Hughes, David Ebsworth, Alex Jenkins (John Tennick), Gareth Bateman (Richard Sharpe- Williams), Rion Whatmore and Jason Jennings.
