SpanJazz will witness the dancing exuberance of South African Township music on Thursday, July 21, with the Philip Clouts Quartet at Plas Hyfryd Hotel, Narberth.

The convivial groove of gospel-influenced soul jazz, the joyful sway of Cuban guaguanco rhythms, the bluesy melodies of Middle Eastern praise songs and so much more all come together in pianist Philip Clouts’s superbly accomplished quartet.

The Philip Clouts Welsh Ensemble features jazz and world music pianist and composer Philip Clouts in a collaboration with three rising jazz talents from the South Wales scene, musicians Tamasin Reardon (alto sax), Linus Fenton (double bass) and Matt Griffiths (drums).

Together they bring inflections and inspirations from different continents and traditions into a single, melodic, swinging jazz ensemble that will delight and intrigue audiences.

‘Clouts’s compositions are strong and likeable… a feeling of optimism pervading the tunes with a life force of its own’ (All About Jazz).

The hotel will be serving meals before 8 pm. Meals can be ordered for the interval (call Plas Hyfryd to arrange food).

Tickets are £8/£7 (concession)/£4 (child) and are available from the Span Arts box office on 01834 869 323 or online at spanarts.org.uk. Music starts at 8 pm. To book your meal, call Plas Hyfryd on 01834 869 006.
