The New Year got off to a very close start with only up to four clays being the difference in all of the shoots.

Parsonage 206 Lodge 202: Jim Walwyn and his Lodge team entered into the quarry to confront 'Capitano' Phillips and his Parsonage team in very wet and windy conditions and contested a very close and exciting shoot.

The AA were very nearly called out for a flat battery, but 'Bert', the local sparks, saved the day!

It did not go unnoticed that the Rev. Borrowdale turned out for the Lodge in a rare appearance, but Postman Pat, Mr. Casement, delivered again and turned in the top score for the Lodge with a fine 34. Top shot for the Parsonage was Paul (PB) Goodrick with a fine 35, with his son Billy causing a bit of a stink with his performance during this shoot. Tim Evans was cautioned for claiming faulty equipment, but still managed a respectable 32. It should also be noted that Emlyn (the Mayor's nephew) had a lucky 22, but had to use both barrels in his effort to escape doing the raffle. Quay 205 Wisemans 202: Again this shoot was contested in very wet and windy conditions, with the Quay coming out on top of a Wisemans team chasing the league title.

Bryan Phillips was top shot for the Wisemans with 33, while John Williams, of the Quay, bagged 32. Swan 191 Jeff 190: This match eventually was decided by a single clay in muddy, wet and windy conditions down in Manorbier Newton.

Top scorers for the Jeff, Lee Tucker 31, Gerald Beynon 29 and Peter Lewis 28, could not overturn the consistent scores of the Swan boys, with Steve Bowen breaking 29 clays, Dave Lewis also scoring 29 and Berry Rogers and Ted Evans following close behind with 28 apiece.
