Pembrokeshire's hardy band of Boxing Day dippers can start working on their fancy dress costumes for the traditional Tenby plunge.

To tie in with Tenby's great history of rescue at sea, the costume theme of 'SOS' has just been announced by the organisers, the Tenby Sea Swimming Association.

The RNLI, always supported by the swim, is also the headline charity for the event this year, which has seen the start of work to construct Tenby's new £3 million lifeboat station off Castle Hill.

Said TSSA chairman, Chris Osborne: "Our crazy bathers have never let us down with their imaginative costumes, and we're sure that our SOS theme will inspire some brilliant creations based on all types of rescue."

Prizes are on offer for the best junior and adult individual and group, and thanks go to Folly Farm, the Buccaneer, Somerfield, Kilgetty Co-op and Victoria Wine for these.

Last year, the swim raised more than £12,400 for charity, which takes the total raised by the Boxing Day Swim in its 32-year history to over £100,000.

While some individual dippers collect for their own charitable causes, others raise money for the charities supported by the TSSA.

This year, as well as the RNLI, the chief charities are Tenby Scout and Guide Hall Fund, the Pembrokeshire committee of NSPCC Wales, Cancer Research and the Pembrokeshire Carers' Association.
