Hilarious, happy, wonderful fun, best night out, brilliant entertainment, were some of the comments used to describe the sing-a-long evening recently in the De Valence Pavilion, Tenby. Sing-a-long shows involve a full screening of a popular musical, together with goody bags for the audience and a professional host to compere the evening ensuring it goes with a swing. If wished, the audience can dress as a character from the film and win amazing prizes. The shows have been widely popular in London and the South East for some years, but this was the first time a sing-a- long has been produced in Pembrokeshire. Sing-a-long Sound of Music brought out a plethora of nuns, both male and female, including one with 'curlers in her hair' and another with pink bloomers! There were small boys splendid in Lederhosen, a Maria complete with straw hat and guitar and a couple of each labelled, 'Me, a name I call myself'. The audience were encouraged to add sound effects as well as their voice, including the sound of hundreds of party poppers exploding when Captain von Trapp kissed Maria. Even the most inhibited of the audience were won over, not just by the delightful, ageless film, but the infectious fun of participation. The London based host gave the organisers some anxious moments, when he had difficulty in locating the De Valence Pavilion through the closed off streets of Tenby after the fire at the Royal Gatehouse Hotel. But it was a tribute to his warmth and professionalism that the audience of all ages were totally involved from the first minute of the show. Some of the ticket holders actually missed the show due to the fire, assuming the theatre was closed. Fortunately most donated the ticket money to the good cause. Gift from Connie
Connie Fisher, the local star of the musical in London, kindly sent her good wishes together with a signed Sound of Music tee shirt which was auctioned during the interval, raising extra funds. All proceeds from the evening went to HOPE Therapy Centre for Multiple Sclerosis in Neyland, which gives treatment and support for MS patients in the county and beyond. Many thanks are due to sponsors and organisers for their great help.
