A strong second half performance wasn't enough to see Narberth over the line away at Goodwick on Saturday as the Bluebirds could only settle for a draw.
While this may seem like a good result against the current Division One table-toppers and Senior Cup finalists, visiting manager Nigel Thomas left Phoenix Park a frustrated man as he witnessed his side miss some crucial chances to steal the game.
"If this game was a boxing match, we would have won it on points," he said. "We finished really strongly and were by far the fitter side at the end. We made all the running and had all the chances, but failed to take them. It's annoying, but that's the way it goes."
With a huge backlog of fixtures to get through, Narberth could have done with the points to make their crammed run-in that little bit smoother. They went ahead through a Justin Blewitt goal in the first half, yet could only enter the break tied at one apiece as the home side equalised soon after.
Narberth held all the aces in the second half, yet there were no further goals coming despite a glut of chances.
For a side that is languishing towards the bottom of the Division One table, Kilgetty sure do love playing the top sides. They hammered Merlins Bridge at the start of the year, defeated Pennar handsomely quite recently and on Saturday, were leading Hakin United 3-0 at half time.
Unfortunately for them, they were unable to maintain their dominance throughout the 90 minutes and the home side came back to level the game 3-3 at the close of play.
Nicky Cope made the muddy conditions look like concrete as he sped through to open the scoring after 11 minutes, while soon after, he added another as he ran the Vikings defence ragged.
Ten minutes before the interval, Mike Beynon made it three as he eased one home, leaving the former Pembrokeshire champions shell-shocked.
If the first half belonged to Kilgetty, the second belonged to the homesters. They reduced the deficit after 63 minutes, added a second after 80 and three minutes before time drew level, leaving the visitors wondering where it all went wrong.
"It's disappointing to draw," said manager Norman James. "The boys played brilliantly. We would have settled for a point when we were travelling down there, but to draw in the end is frustrating.
"The good thing is results went our way, but we're still not out of the woods and still have a fight for survival on our hands."
Tenby's hopes of finishing the season in second place are still on track after they walloped Clarbeston Road 6-0 away from home.
The Seasiders were inspired throughout the game as young Billy Vaughan struck three past the hapless home 'keeper, while Declan Carroll and Daryl Mansbridge also got in on the act. To compound Clarbie's misery, the sixth goal was scored by themselves as Tenby's relentless pressure forced them to put the ball in their own net.
Pendine's home game against Milford United was postponed, but a few miles up the road, in-form St. Clears were in action against St. Ishmaels.
Saints manager Charlie Smith knew this was a test for his team after their recent run of form and they didn't disappoint as they won the ding dong battle 4-3.
Tish went ahead early on, yet Andrew McCabe scored a brilliant individual goal to draw the sides level. The visitors extended their lead soon after following some poor defending, yet Eddie Wiggins was able to slip one home following a goalmouth scramble to make it 2-2 at the break.
With 15 minutes to go, Paul Palmer put Tish ahead, before a Jason Baxter chip made it 3-3, giving the impetus to the home side to go ahead and win the game following a Colin Reynolds strike.
Smith still won't admit his team could get promoted providing they win their remaining games, yet says his side are playing well.
"We just about deserved this. It wasn't our best display of the season, but it proved we can compete against anyone in this division and it has given us confidence for our remaining games."
Of all the problems facing Carew at the start of the season, selection would not have been classed as one of them. How times have changed as following their 2-2 away draw at Saundersfoot Sports and forced to field a team with seven changes from the week before, who to leave out and who to retain for the remaining fixtures will be a concern.
In one of the most exciting games of the season thus far, Tom Baker put the home team ahead, before Adam Hughes responded with two goals to place the visitors 2-1 up.
The home team equalised soon after through Danny Caine just before half-time and he also had a header disallowed in the second, which would have given his team the points.
As much as the Sports would have wanted the win, Daryl John believes it was the right result.
"We could have nicked it I suppose. Ross Gray had one cleared off the line, while Gary Cunningham also had one disallowed, but I've no complaints. It was one of the best games I've been involved in all season."
Carew's Paul Bullock concurred.
"Fair play to those who came in, they did a great job and I'm sure selection will be difficult this week. It's pleasing to get a point against them as it was a very close game."
It's not often you hear of player/managers being their team's top goal scorer, but Mark O'Sullivan must surely be leading the way for Narberth Seconds.
After a recent hat-trick, he added to his tally with four goals against Hubberston in their Division Three clash at Jesse Road as the Bluebirds won 6-1.
He scored the first three as the home side went into the break 3-1 up. Ryan Williams scored the fourth on his debut after recently turning 16, before O'Sullivan added another, prior to Adrian Howells finishing the rout.
"It was a very good win for us," said O'Sullivan. "I couldn't fault the lads. We outplayed one of the top teams in our division and it was easily our best display of the season."
Lawrenny slammed in the goals during their home clash with Herbrandston as they won 6-1.
Gavin James was the star man as he slotted three into the back of the net, with Joe Kidney smashing home a penalty as part of his brace. Owen James was the other man on the score sheet for the home side in one of their most one-sided performances of the year.
In Division Four, Saundersfoot Sports' Seconds lost 2-0 away at Milford United, while Tenby Seconds were indebted to a James Howes goal as they held West Dragons to a 1-1 draw. St. Florence's away game at St. Ishmaels was postponed.
Meanwhile, despite securing promotion last week, Kilgetty Seconds were unable to play their home clash against St. Clears in Division Five due to a waterlogged pitch.
