A SCHOOLBOY has helped a Tenby resident win a prize in a television contest.
Schoolboy Sion Davies has just finished five weeks filming for Sky1's 'Are you Smarter than a 10-year-old?' at Elstree Studios, London, including the celebrity show.
As well as meeting celebrities, including Noel Edmonds (pictured here with Sion), John Culshaw, Martine Mcutcheon and David Gest, Sion helped the gentleman from Tenby from the podium with his questions and they chatted backstage about the town as it is Sion's favourite place for holidays.
Sion is one of the class of 2008 appearing on the show which will be on Sky1 and Sky1 HD for about a year.
The Saturday/Sunday show, hosted by Noel Edmonds, has a jackpot of £250,000, while the mid-week programme, hosted by Dick and Dom, has a jackpot of £50,000.
Contestants attempt to answer questions from age six up to 10 and have three cheats called peak, copy and save.
A class of five children are on hand. The contestant picks one child and chooses a subject, e.g Age 6 Music, Age 7 Spanish or Age 10 Science. If they fail, they must look to camera and admit they are not 'smarter than a 10-year-old'.
A Year 6 pupil, Sion is from Llanelli. He is an avid James Bond fan and likes Greek mythology, as well as drama.
He holidays in Tenby all the time and thinks the people are 'really relaxed and friendly' and would like to live here one day.
On the show, Sion sings songs from Oliver and Les Miserables among others. He has appeared in Doctor Dolittle at the New Theatre, Cardiff, with Tommy Steele, as well as on Casualty and various adverts.
Sion said: "The contestant from Tenby was a lot of fun. He used to work as a cowboy and brought chocolates for the class because he once won a chocolate eating contest. Backstage before the show, we chatted about the town, as Tenby is my favourite place to holiday or visit, in particular Castle Beach and the Tenby House arcade."
