Yorkshire Building Society is inviting its customers and members of the public to nominate charities and good causes to share in its annual charity giveaway. From today (Friday), for three weeks, all Yorkshire's 131 branches will be donating money collected from its innovative Small Change, Big Difference scheme - a scheme where members donate their pence interest to the society's Charitable Foundation. Over 300,000 of the society's members are already signed up to the unique scheme, which last year generated more than £130,000 for charitable donations. It is hoped that by inviting those who have contributed to the charitable fund to recommend where it is spent, more members will sign up to the scheme and result in an increase in donations every year. Sian Cavey at Tenby's Yorkshire Building Society in Tudor Square said: "As the funds in the Small Change Big Difference scheme are generated by our members, I think it is great that we ask them to choose where it goes. I hope lots of our customers and other members of the public call into the branch with a recommendation for their favourite local good cause to receive a donation." It is expected that more than 300 donations will be made during the three-week period. The most popular requests are usually for local hospices, special needs schools and elderly care, but any community group in need of funds will be considered.
