Tenby residents are facing a slight rise in the town precept for 2016/17, with an increase of 15p on last year.
At Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, members unanimously supported the budget plans for the year, with the Band D equivalent precept levy increasing to £58.57.
“Council will see that the total planned expenditure budget is £1,868.63 higher than last year, mostly to mitigate against potential cuts in county council service provision,” the town clerk, Andrew Davies, explained in his report to members.
“With expected income marginally increasing also, this gives a precept requirement of £156,054.83, an increase of £1,758.63 (1.14 per cent) on last year.
“With an upward revision in the Council Tax base this year, the Band D equivalent precept levy will be £58.57, a 15p increase on last year,” he continued.
The report explained how the floral budget had been increased to £10,000 to cover projected costs of providing bedding plants following the removal of PCC funding for floral displays and weekend maintenance. There was also additional provision to cover increased involvement in promoting Christmas activities in the town, and towards ‘park and ride’ provision during the pedestrianisation scheme.
The De Valence Trust had indicated that while they were not in a position to survive without any form of grant, due to increased usage of the venue and unpaid volunteer staffing, a reduction could be made in the town council’s contribution.
Clr. Laurence Blackhall said that this factor was a “success story” to celebrate for the New Year.
