Whitland entertained Blackwood in a rearranged Lloyds TSB Division One match on Saturday and ran out comfortable winners, consolidating their third place in the league.

Outside-half Aled Davies opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a penalty.

Eight minutes later his opposite number, Jeremy Lloyd, levelled the scores with a similar effort, only for Whitland to retake the lead with a try three minutes before the interval.

It came after centre Lee Glanville made a half break. Number eight Randall Williams then took the ball on and fellow back row forward John Bowen was on hand to crash through the last line of defence and grab the touchdown.

Davies added the conversion to leave the half time score 10- 3 to Whitland.

Three minutes into the second half, winger Emyr Davies went over for an unconverted try for Whitland.

Five minutes later, Blackwood responded with their only try of the match, when prop Jason Rogers crashed over and Lloyd added the two points with a successful conversion.

Midway through the half, Whitland extended their lead when second row Molitika scored his side's third try, with Davies again adding the extra two points.

The Borderers finished off with a try by captain and outstanding back row forward Phil Morgan, who crashed over for the try after a quick tap penalty taken by Gareth Davies.

This made the final score 27 points to 10 to Whitland.

Whitland's last match of the season will be next Saturday, May 15, when they take on Brynmawr at home, with a 2.30 pm kick-off.
