Tenby's forthcoming Mayor-making ceremony will make it a sixth term in office for one of the town's best-known councillors, who has been described as the driving force behind the resort's floral success.
At Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane was the unanimous choice of her colleagues to again don the scarlet robes of office and become the town's 620th Mayor.
Taking over from current Mayor, Clr. Trevor Hallett, it will be the first time that Clr. Mrs. Lane, who is also chairman of Tenby in Bloom, has taken on the role since 2009.
As the only councillor around the table to put her name forward for the hot seat, Clr. Mrs. Lane said that, as it was a very important year again for floral activities in the town, with Tenby chosen to take part in an international competition organised by a Canadian 'Communities in Bloom' group, it would be a great "honour and privilege" to represent the town as Mayor.
With the current Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas, proposing her fellow member, saying that she was sure that Clr. Mrs. Lane would do a "wonderful job", Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter seconded the proposal, remarking that the Mayor-elect was full of "enthusiasm and energy" in whatever she did.
Thanking her colleagues for their support, Clr. Mrs. Lane, who was first elected Mayor in 1998, said that she would do her best in representing the town council and the whole of Tenby again during her year in office and hoped she might also be able to bring home a big award from Canada if the resort achieved success in the floral event it was entering.
