TENBY-based band The Afternoons' new single 'High Summer Lovers' was made single of the week this week on Radio 2's prestigious Radcliffe- Maconie show.
It is the second time the band have achieved this accolade; their previous single 'Don't Turn Back' was voted single of the week in March after being chosen by Mark Radcliffe as his personal favourite. Both singles are taken from the band's fourth album, 'Sweet Action', described in a glowing NME review as 'soaring pop... full of tunes galore'. Both singles are Radio Wales favourites and have also been a hit on Spanish Radio, where the band enjoy a cult following.
'Sweet Action' is already the band's best-selling release, and has been distributed as far afield as the USA, Japan, Spain, Germany, Canada and South America.
The Afternoons - three of whom (Paul and Sarah Rapi and Peter Morgan) are from Tenby - base their operations in and around the area, writing and rehearsing their records in Bruce Campbell's Winderton studios in New Hedges. The photos for the cover of 'Sweet Action' were taken in Fecci's ice cream parlour in St. George's Street, which was also used as a location for the video for 'High Summer Lovers'.
The Afternoons play in the Station Inn, Pembroke Dock, tomorrow (Saturday) and with acclaimed indie favourites The Keys in the Queen's Hall, Narberth, on August 20.
'High Summer Lovers', 'Don't Turn Back' and 'Sweet Action' are available to download from i-tunes, and the band's myspace site is http://www.myspace.com/">www.myspace.com/ theafternoonsuk.
