Tenby Male Choir performed at the Giltar Hotel in Tenby on Tuesday, June 26.

As well as an excellent performance of a varied programme from the choir en masse, there were also solo performances from Eric Mullins who sang If I Were A Rich Man, John Butland played his guitar and sang Love Is All Around and You Look Beautiful Tonight. Eric and Kevin Morgan sang The Bold Gendarmes.

The hotel guests thoroughly enjoyed the evening and two visiting choristers joined the choir to sing An American Trilogy. One was from the Colne Valley near Huddersfield and the other was from the Cardiff Arms Choir.

In appreciation of the choir’s efforts, the hotel provided a very tasty buffet. Many thanks to the hotel staff for their hard work.

They performed again on Thursday, June 28, at the Lawrenny Arms. Thankfully, the weather was perfect which was much appreciated as in past years the choir had to shelter in the back of the marquee as it was pouring with rain.

It is a beautiful setting and the choir sang to a lively audience as boats came and went on the estuary.

Dave Blackmore asked if any of the audience had come by boat. A number of people said that they had come up the estuary from Burton. A lady then promptly added that she had come all the way from Australia by boat!

Again we were treated to performances from Eric Mullins and Kevin Morgan, although it seemed that Eric didn’t want to share the microphone when they sang their duet and Kevin literally had to take the matter into his own hands! Eric began by singing the Bold Hippopotamus and both the audience and the choir joined in with the chorus.

When Dave Blackmore introduces My Grandfather’s Clock he asks the audience if anyone has been to the George Hotel in Piercebridge, North Yorkshire. On this occasion, we were surprised to hear that a lady in the audience had been there the previous Sunday! Apparently, these tall clocks were referred to by a number of different names. It wasn’t until Henry Work wrote this famous song when he visited the George and heard the story that the term ‘grandfather’s clock’ came into being.

The Lawrenny Arms kindly gave the choir vouchers for pints of beer and in the intervals they made haste to sample the beef burgers and hot dogs.

The next concert is at St. Mary’s Church on Thursday, July 12, with the doors opening at 7.30 for an 8 pm start.
