Award winning TEXTILE designer Sian O’Doherty is delighted to be hosting an Open Studio event at Ash Farm near Pentlepoir on the 16th (11am to 6pm) and 17th of August 11am to 5pm .
The Open Studio provides a wonderful opportunity to meet Sian and a range of fifteen renowned artists from around Wales, who will be exhibiting their products for the duration of the event. Alongside the guest exhibitors Sian will be selling a selection of knitwear, accessories and home décor items – including some exciting new designs not yet available online. The work available from guest exhibitors ranges from woodwork, ceramics, photography, jewellery, clothing, stained glass, print, machine stitch, willow weaving, and fine art pieces. This event is sure to delight art and craft lovers of all ages and provides a rare opportunity to meet with the designers and learn about their individual craft and the work that goes into each piece of work.
Also during the weekend a range of delicious homemade foods will be available to purchase from Paternoster Farm and Absolute Event Bars will have a number of refreshing drinks to enjoy that will no doubt add to the summer festivities!
Visitors will be able to see Sian’s alpacas in the fields adjoining the studio and mingle with the herd at set times during the two days. The alpaca herd has grown substantially recently and the fleeces from the animals are used in an increasing range of Sian’s products including the iconic new jumper range. Sian’s philosophy is to produce sustainable products and prove that style and sustainability are not mutually exclusive and by breeding her own alpacas, she is able to ensure that the animals are cared for to the highest standards. Alpacas come in a range of natural colours, requiring less dying, which in turn results in less risk of damage to the environment. Alpaca fibre is non-flammable, is strong, does not felt as readily as other animal fibres, has an excellent drape and natural lustre and is very soft to handle. It’s also easy to clean.
Alpacas have adapted to live in climates where temperatures can fluctuate as much as 30°C in one day. These animals have a high tolerance to temperature change, a quality which is transferred to clothing made with its fibre. They are also fascinating creatures to observe and their calm nature spreads to those in their company.
Entry is free, so please come and join us to celebrate the wide range of artistic talent that can be found here in Wales. Find out more about the wonderful sellers who will be helping to make this year’s event so special here. Sianodoherty.co.ukor see the facebook page.
