Sir, May we use the medium of the letters page to remind readers that vehicular access to Jones Terrace/Augustus Place is legally restricted to those persons requiring access to premises on the estate? There are 48 residents on the estate, but only 17 parking spaces of which just seven are reserved for resident permit holders and the remaining 10 for other residents and visitors. Many of the elderly residents suffer from some form of incapacity and require daily visits from carers or family members to attend to their essential living requirements. Lack of any parking space means that such visits have to be curtailed or rescheduled which results in unnecessary disruption to the lives of many residents, particularly those for whom such visits can be their only personal contact each day. Ambulances are an all too frequent sight on the estate and often these emergency vehicles are unable to reach the designated address due to the illegal parking. On behalf of the residents, we would request readers to show some consideration for the elderly residents and to refrain from parking on the estate whilst they visit the shops. The police service and the civil enforcement officers have far greater priorities than dealing with illegal parking on the estate, but for the sake of the continued wellbeing of residents, there will be no alternative, but to call them out if inconsiderate people continue to use the estate for free parking.
