Sir,
Narberth may well have become the gift shop capital of the western world, but it has become a nightmare for those of us who need to use a car for ordinary, everyday shopping.
Almost every day of the week, the town is choked with cars and lorries and the stench of exhaust fumes is quite unbearable. The majority of vehicles are parked illegally and juggernauts are usually to be found delivering goods at the busiest time of day. The car park is also chaotic. The one hour limit is often ignored and the lack of marked parking bays on the main area means cars are parked haphazardly, thus not utilising this valuable space properly.
May I suggest Whitland as an alternative? It has nothing like the range of interesting shops as in Narberth, but it doesn't have the frustration of traffic jams, the fruitless search for a parking space, or the poisonous atmosphere either.
D. E. Lewis,
Llangwathen,
Lampeter Velfrey.
