Sir,
As a resident who lives near Waterloo civic amenity and has family at New Hedges, I decided to attend the exhibition held by the council on Wednesday, August 22, to see at first-hand the plans for the proposed new civic amenity site.
I was very impressed with the plans themselves, they were very professional and made it look like a park; it was so neat and tidy. But living as I do near Waterloo, I think the picture I saw outside more realistic.
I did find that I couldn't get any direct answers to some of my concerns; indeed it felt like the representatives were decoys. I asked several of them if they had visited the proposed site, quite a few said no they had not.
I asked about the noise, as I know from personal experience (I do use the recycling centre at Waterloo as I believe strongly in recycling) that it does get noisy at times with breaking glass etc.
Also there is no doubt traffic will increase.
I must say I am shocked to think that the council would choose a site so near a nursing home and on such a very busy road.
One thing that did come across very strongly was the lack of understanding and compassion that the position of the proposed site will bring untold misery to so many people.
My mother died from Alzheimer's and I know of the pain and stress this terrible illness brings. I witnessed terrible anguish from people whose loved ones are in the home; it is heartbreaking to see them having to cope with this added stress.
L. Robinson,
