South Pembrokeshire bore the brunt of high winds and torrential rain at the weekend. Firefighters from Tenby were especially busy on Sunday, dealing with a spate of incidents in the town, which appears to have suffered the worst from the stormy weather. Crews were in action for most of the day. They dealt with a tree in a dangerous position at the Woodridge Inn, Wooden, while they also made safe an aerial overhanging the pavement in Park Place and slates which had blown off the roof of a property in Church Park. Other calls included dealing with a loose aerial in Harries Street, loose corrugated sheets at the dairy in Lower Park Road and loose slates at Quarry Cottages. A tree hanging on electric cables at Tenby rugby ground was also made safe, as were slates and battens which had blown off the roof of Tenby Junior School. The brigade's busiest time was between 12 noon and 3.30 pm, with other calls being to Clement Terrace, Augustus Place and Tenby House Hotel. Pembrokeshire County Council workmen were also kept busy clearing debris and dealing with incidents. In total 32 trees were blown down around the county. Damage was also caused to a number of schools, including Ysgol Preseli and the new Ysgol y Frenni, both in Crymych. The Cleddau Bridge was closed several times, with wind monitoring equipment measuring a constant wind of 40-55 mph, with a top gust of 75 mph. Workmen were also busy in Pembroke and Pembroke Dock.
