Sir, The Walled Town Residents' Association congratulates Tenby Town Council on its recent initiative of erecting signs around Tenby asking people not to feed the gulls. You have succeeded in getting this serious message across with a measure of humour. Feeding gulls is without doubt an anti-social act, but many visitors are not aware of this and of the problems it causes. The gulls have memories and will return to forage from litter bins and black bags. They have also been known to snatch food from young children - that can be a terrifying experience for toddlers and not without danger. Please can we have more of these signs in other areas where gulls are routinely fed such as near take-away premises, benches and on the approaches to the beaches? These signs finally show recognition that there is no point complaining about the gulls when the main cause of the problem is the humans!
