The concert on September 6 was the best attended this year, with over 250 in the audience.
Fortunately, St. Mary's Tenby is so much more than a normal parish church, so nobody was turned away!
The magnificent acoustics, combined with an appreciative public, always bring out the best in the choir, and this was one of the occasions when, to quote our MD, Ian 'Wilbur' Williams, 'this church sings back to us!'
Highlights of the choir's performance were new encore May Each Day, arranged by Dowlais' Dave Last, and recently revived old favourites Rhythm Of Life, Climb Every Mountain and the poignant Softly As I Leave You Henry Work's My Grandfather's Clock now seems to be a perpetual firm favourite with the audiences.
The night's guest soloist was Corey Morris, accompanied on both organ and piano by St. Mary's director of music, Dr. John Harrison. Their performance in the first interval, of Haydn's Trumpet Concerto, was effectively a duet for trumpet and organ, and it is now available to watch on YouTube.
RNLI Concert
The previous concert was for the RNLI, on August 30. This annual even is always a hit with the public. When the choir sang Bring Him Home, from Les Miserables, it was dedicated to past and present members of the lifeboat crew.
The guest soloist was violinist Hannah Lowe, accompanied by he mother Siân. Proud dad Steve, the Tenby RNLI engineer, watched from the audience.
Hannah has been playing for us for at least six years, and her performances get better and better.
This time she played the beautiful and demanding Mélodie (Op 42) by Tchaikovsky, Ungar's Ashokan Farewell and Lovers' Waltz, finishing with Allegro Brillante by Willem Ten Have.
Looking forward, the choir's programme for 2013 has been finalised and will be released soon.
Applications for concerts in 2014 should be made soon, to avoid disappointment. More information about the choir and details of its programme are available on the official website http://www.tenbymalechoir.org">www.tenbymalechoir.org, where there are clips of the choir singing available to download. We can also be seen and heard on YouTube.com .
Concerts permitting, rehearsals take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Tenby and County Club on The Croft.
