Last week, the Seniors' Section played two matches. The first of these, on Tuesday, was against the ladies - undoubtedly the most attractive fixture, in more ways than one, of the whole season. The format of the match was Chapman Foursomes, a compromise between the ladies' preference of foursomes and the gentlemen's normal format of four-ball-better-ball. And as befits such a compromise, the result was a tie at five-all. Discretion forbids one to itemise winners and losers. The pairings for the match (ladies names first naturally) were: Jean Charnock and Anne Wilks played Newman Vincent and Geoff Aston; Ann Dassen and Mary Williams played Vince Shaw and David Leeke; Heather Morgan and Ann Ferrand Thomas played Richard Davies and John Williams; Liz Storey and Paula Morgan played Roy Gundry and Ken Gouldsbrough; Ann Marsden and Eiona Aston played John Hancock and David Morgan; Vena Davies and Joyce Gouldsbrough played John Charnock and Brian Waters; Anita Davies and Pat Lehane played Tony Morris and Bob Storey; Helen Morgan and Rita Collins played Malcolm Arlott and Owen Monaghan; Linda Thomas and Jackie Cleverley played Brian Morgan and Rob Wilkins; Lyn Bonar and Joan Pugh played Jim Taylor and Clifton John. In the second match, on Thursday, the Seniors welcomed their contemporaries from Gower Golf Club. This was just the second time that Gower had visited Tenby. Home advantage prevailed to allow the hosts to win through by 6.5 and 3.5. A return match was due to be played yesterday (Thursday). Results this time were: Newman Vincent and Tony Morris beat Frank Walker and Ron Holloway 4 and 3; Stan Hudson and Jack Hasdell beat Ioan Stock and Alan Pritchard 7 and 5; John Hancock and David Morgan beat Bill Thorpe and Bill Tonkin 3 and 2; Roy Gundry and Brian Waters lost to Reg Morgan and Alan Perrett 1 down; Ken Gouldsbrough and Geoff Aston beat Des Hill and Mike Roberts 6 and 5; Vince Shaw and Alan Yates beat Jim Kelleher and Terry Williams 6 and 5; Derek Bath and Martin Neilan lost to Ray Collins and Steve Roberts 3 and 2; Ron Murphy and Roy Morgan beat Alwyne Jenkins and John Ward 3 and 2; Malcolm Arlott and Maurice Lewis halved with Len Bastin and Lyn Evans; John Williams and Clifton John lost to Ken Graves and Lynn Anderson 4 and 3.
