Tenby 'A' team took full advantage of their home draw against Woodlake Park to win the match last Wednesday by two matches to one. The course was in superb condition and the weather was perfect which helped to produce a very high standard of golf from both teams.

Tenby's first pair was Peter Williams and Geoff Aston, who were playing N. Nicholas and C. Peterson. There was very little in the first nine holes, with Tenby winning the first hole, but losing the third. It was all-square after nine, but Tenby went two up by winning holes 12 and 14. A half at the 15th and a win at the 16th gave them victory by 3 and 2.

The second match brought together Bob Howse and Stan Hudson, who were having to give a number of strokes to Howard Hobbs and Bob Willis. Bob and Stan, however, were in great form, going three up after four holes, before getting birdies at holes fivve and six to go further ahead. They lost hole eight to a net birdie, but won holes nine and 10 to go six up with eight to play. The match was won on the 15th by 5 and 3.

The final pairing for Tenby was Martin Neilan and Richard Davies and their opposition was Peter Watkins and Denis Smith. Again this match produced some really good quality golf, including five birdies and an eagle. Surprisingly, the match was lost, according to Richard, on the greens where the visitors were able to hole more putts. There was never more than one hole in the match, but Tenby lost by that one hole.

The opposition for the quarter-finals is not yet known, but the match will take place at Pontardawe Golf Club on Friday, July 24.
