After extensive trials, two 14-year-old girls, Nicola Aston and Carrie Slack, both of whom play for Tenby Ladies AFC, have been successful in being selected to play for Wales.
The two girls, who have been attending trials at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff, have been chosen to play in Denmark in the under 15s international football tournament, The Dana Cup No1.
This will be held in Frederickshaven from July 7 to 15.
Nicola and Carrie will be playing football against teams from all over the world in this highly prestigious youth tournament. They have progressed to this stage through hard, dedicated work, with the encouragement, support and help of their friends and team-mates.
Special thanks go to their coaches, Angela Nicholls (Tenby coach) and Gerry Rigby (FAW development officer and county coach).
On Sunday, an excellent evening was enjoyed at the junior football dinner held at the Royal Gate House Hotel, Tenby, where Nicola and Carrie were greatly honoured when they jointly received the highest accolade possible from Tenby Football Club - the Sid Spencer Memorial Shield for the most outstanding performance from boy or girl junior footballers in the 2000/2001 season.
